It helps, but you can still scrap a car without it if you can show the car is yours. Call us and we’ll talk you through it.
How do I get paid?
By bank transfer. Under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013, scrap cars can’t be paid for in cash.
Will I get a Certificate of Destruction?
Yes. Your car goes to an Authorised Treatment Facility, which issues the Certificate of Destruction and tells the DVLA the car has been scrapped.
Do I need to tell the DVLA myself?
The Authorised Treatment Facility tells the DVLA when the car is scrapped. Keep your Certificate of Destruction as proof.
Can I get a refund on my car tax?
Yes. Once the DVLA knows the car has been scrapped, any full months of tax left are refunded to you automatically.
Do you take cars that don’t run?
Yes. Non-runners, MOT failures and accident-damaged cars are all fine.
Do I need to be there when you collect?
Usually, yes, so we can check the documents and hand over the paperwork. Ask us if that’s difficult.
